Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first visit.

Appointments & Scheduling

How do I schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment?

+

You can schedule an appointment by calling or emailing us directly. To reschedule or cancel, please give us at least 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations (under 24 hours) are subject to a $100 fee, and no-shows are charged the full session rate of $160. We understand that unexpected situations happen — just reach out as soon as possible and we'll do our best to work with you.

What are your office hours?

+

We are currently open on Tuesdays from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and Sundays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. As a growing practice, we're focused on delivering exceptional one-on-one care. Additional days may be added in the future — contact us to be notified.

Do you offer home visits?

+

Yes! We offer home visit sessions for patients who prefer treatment in the comfort of their own home, or for those who have difficulty traveling. Please contact us to inquire about availability and scheduling a home visit.

Your First Visit

What should I expect during my first visit?

+

Your initial appointment will include a detailed discussion of your health history, followed by a thorough physical examination. Dr. SJ will then provide hands-on treatment and create a personalized home exercise plan for you to continue your progress between sessions. Plan for approximately 60–75 minutes for your first visit.

What should I wear to my appointment?

+

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For example, if you have a knee or hip issue, wear shorts. For shoulder or back issues, a tank top or loose-fitting shirt works well. Athletic wear is always a good choice.

How long are sessions?

+

Initial evaluations typically run 60–75 minutes. Follow-up treatment sessions are approximately 50–60 minutes. Because we work on a one-on-one basis, every minute is spent focused entirely on you — no waiting, no rushing.

Insurance & Payment

Do I need a prescription to start physical therapy?

+

No prescription is needed to begin physical therapy at Kinergy. New York State is a direct access state, which means you can start PT without a physician's referral. However, if you plan to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, some plans may require a referral — so it's worth checking with your insurer first. We're happy to help you navigate this.

Do you accept insurance?

+

Kinergy Physical Therapy is an out-of-network provider. If you have a PPO plan with out-of-network physical therapy benefits, you may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement on your sessions — and we make it easy by submitting claims to your insurance on your behalf. You pay at the time of service, we handle the paperwork, and your insurer reimburses you directly. Visit our Insurance & Rates page for more information and to submit your insurance for benefit verification.

What is the session rate?

+

Each session is $200. Payment is due at the time of service. We accept credit/debit cards, Zelle, Venmo, and HSA/FSA cards.

About Treatment

How many sessions will I need?

+

The number of sessions varies based on your condition, goals, and how your body responds to treatment. Dr. SJ will give you a realistic expectation during your initial evaluation. Many patients see meaningful improvement within 4–8 sessions, while more complex conditions may require a longer treatment course. Your progress is continuously reassessed so your plan evolves with you.

Will physical therapy be painful?

+

Some techniques, like manual therapy or exercises targeting injured areas, may cause mild temporary discomfort. Dr. SJ will always communicate with you about your comfort level and adjust accordingly. The goal is therapeutic progress — never unnecessary pain. Open communication during your session is always encouraged.

Can physical therapy help with chronic pain?

+

Absolutely. Chronic pain is one of the most common reasons patients seek physical therapy. Dr. SJ uses a combination of manual therapy, targeted exercise, and patient education to address the root causes of chronic pain — not just the symptoms. Many patients experience significant, lasting relief through consistent, personalized treatment.
